Well maybe not so tasty today but the benefits are worth while checking out.
We all love coffee, some experts tell us its the most addictive drug on the planet (what do they know), while others tell us its just fine. The truth? Somewhere in the middle I’d say.
Do I wake up every morning, throw my legs out of the bed and walk upstairs for some coffee? YES! And I’m betting you do too. And it’s not a bad thing at all. But there are some components of our coffee drinking habits that don’t sit too well. Those being MILK, CREAMER, and SUGAR. Though many of us would rather drink orange juice after brushing our teeth then gulp down scolding hot black coffee it is something you should give more thought to. When I first started drinking black coffee I thought it tasted like someone put a cigarette in my cup. But that taste quickly went away and now I really enjoy it and have an appreciation for coffee’s true nature. BUT what are the benefits. Well studies have shown that caffeine is a useful supplement in fat loss. In its purest form it provides the nervous system with a kickstart and elevates metabolism. Look at it like this. If you had a button in your car that you could push that starts it, warms up the seats, AND gets you the first 10 km without using gas, wouldn’t you want that? Well in many ways this is what drinking black coffee does to us. Allowing pure caffeine to enter the system we allow it to invigorate our nervous system, amplify productivity on an acute scale, and kicks in out metabolism. In contrast, adding milk, creamer, and/or sugar to the mix does a few negatives… The addition of other solvents and solutes reduces the effectiveness of the caffeine. The binding agents in milk actually negates some of the caffeine properties. The milk and creamers, to a larger extent, are the actual reasons for those “instant poop” feelings. And, the sugar becomes the primary energy source as it negates caffeine properties as well. Lastly, for those of you whom practice or are thinking of practicing ‘Intermittent Fasting’ drinking black coffee does NOT break your fast and therefore you do not have to wait until lunchtime to have a coffee. Not only does it not break your fast it also surprises appetite!! With black coffee you can rise, enjoy the beautiful cup of Joe you’ve poured and get on with you day. With this in mind, I know it’s hard to switch from a smooth cup of Timmies Double Double to a cauldron of molten black water but its worth giving it a try. Change is about building up incremental successes, and this may just be one of those micr-factors that plays a big role in the bigger picture of health.
