What is too much and what is not enough?
I catch myself asking this more often then what I should be asking myself.
And that’s… “Am I doing something? What am I doing to be accountable?” Far too often we get all caught up in worrying about the future and the potential outcomes based on our current situations. But ask anyone and they’ll say “you can’t change the past, just live in the present, and work towards the future!” So why don’t we take our own advice and keep pushing to be better tomorrow? Well, human Psychology and present social norms play heavily into how we perceive things. We wake up roll over and check our phones to see JoeBlow with the perfect abs and smile holding an ice cream telling us that its ok to “treat ourselves”. When quite frankly all we do is treat ourselves. What we get from that experience is more self doubt and frustration. This cycle repeats upon itself creating a vicious cycle that’s really hard to break. SO….what to do? FIRSTLY, know that a little change is STILL change and any step forward is better then a step backwards. Seeing incremental changes can boost morale especially when you compound it with micro-goals. We are often teased with the idea that we can reach our ideal bodies in 3 months or in 30 days. While this is truly possible given the right attention to nutrition, hydration, sleep, and workout intensity for the majority of people out there with the goal of losing weight or improving lifestyle it’s not a true match. So setting micro-goals allows for you to manage success and not expect it all at once. Instead of saying “i want a six pack by June 1st!”, say “i’d like to lose one pound a week for the next 2 months!”. This way you can manage on a weekly basis if you are reaching your goals. And having something to look forward to and keep you in check at the end of each week will benefit your overall success far more then setting a date 30-60-90 days away. SECONDLY, and it ties in with point one, but ACCOUNTABILITY! Keep yourself accountable. Don’t fret when things aren’t going smoothly. 95% of the time people duck out of their fitness journey far too soon because they aren’t keeping themselves accountable. Do something rather than nothing and don’t strive for or ask if you are “doing enough”. There is no such thing as enough. Do something so that each day you find yourself a little closer to your goal. Keep a schedule and a list of “To-Do’s” for each day so you can tangibly mark down micro-accomplishments. Stay confident, stay positive, and stay accountable!! A little passion pushes progress a long way. Enjoy! #ProgressionThroughPassion “Progression is built through consistency and tested by Passion”
