knowing your worth...

How do you go about labelling your worth?

Do you put a price tag on it based on hours you work? Based on quality of service? Based on professional status?

I believe there is two sound approaches to answering this question.

Firstly, I believe valued volume of time is a key to understanding your worth. How much quality time and work are you getting done whilst working? Are you working 12 hours a day but barely getting anything done or are you nose to the grindstone day in and day out, but only 5 hours a day? Those who produce, regardless of how long it takes them, quality work volume exhibit a greater degree of 'worth', not necessarily monetary worth, but individual value to their company/job/employer etc.

On the contrary, those who take equal amounts of time, longer, or shorter but produce low quality outputs inedibly are of lower worth. Ideally from this standpoint we would say that if you are a high quality worker you have high worth, which can equate to more pay, more benefits, higher position etc. If you produce low quality work and are of low worth, it equates to less pay, fewer benefits, and a lower position.

Secondly, I deeply believe self worth is dictated by oneself. Those who question the notion of self worth itself exude an outlook that calls for self development. Defining one's worth and pin pointing what their value is based on individually dictated metrics is a defining feature of a high worth individual. Pushing for intellectual plasticity, questioning oneself, and progressively building on one's intellectual property prove to be factors leading to a strong, high quality working output.

The key word here being "self". You dictate your worth based on A) your ability to work hard and output high quality work. And B) by continually learning, adapting, and pushing for self growth.

So next time you sit down and question your worth when you've had a tough day at work, or your boss is being an A double S, think about these few things. Are you working hard and producing high quality work? What do you think your worth is? Are you more valuable than you are treated? What do you bring to the table above others? And do you continue to seek for improvements, learning opportunities, and growth?

Once you've reached your conclusion the next step is determining where you go from there. Move on, improve, stay the same? The choice is always yours.

So what are you worth?
