Too often, myself included, we get caught up in the notion of dieting as a process rather than a lifestyle change. Dieting doesn’t have to be something that stresses you out or a burden. Dieting should be an understanding of portion control, macronutrient profile, and timing. Studies show that eating clean whole foods naturally releases endorphins related to feelings of comfort, happiness, and satiation. Furthermore, when we consume these healthy whole foods in accordance to our training schedule as well as our sense of hunger we can both fuel our body appropriately and avoid any unnecessary snacking. Lastly, when choosing foods and later on the meals to be consumed, we must consider the nutrient profile, Proteins, carbohydrates, and Fats, how they play a key role in our intended goals (fat loss, muscle gain, maintenance etc.) and how they make us feel.
If you’re a carb person then by all means have carbs, but moderate and identify clean alternatives to things like white bread, rice, crackers, chips and cookies.
At the end of the day if you eat clean, time your meals, and understand why you eat what you eat dieting will seize to be a labour itself and become a labour of love.
