Creating change through diversity...

Consistency and diversity breeds plasticity in the face of adversity...

Sounds like something straight out of a philosopher's playbook! Let's break this statement down.

Recall our topic; Creating change through diversity. The preface of this article is to enlighten you in the ideas of diversity. Developing consistent and diverse habits and outlooks on situations to develop plastic responses in the face of adversity.

When it comes to training, nutrition, and program design there are a few constants that every gym goer wants to avoid. They want to avoid staleness (getting bored), avoid losing gains and/or not making any progress, and they want to avoid wasting their damn time!

The best way to avoid all of these is diverse training and nutrition. If we follow the fundamentals of training and nutrition; sound technique, progressive overload, working through multiple planes of motion...eating clean whole foods, developing a strong foundation of macronutrients/calories, portion control... then it doesn't really matter which exercise and what foods we are consuming, to an extent. So in this circumstance, variety of exercise selection and food choices allows us to effectively train for our intended purposes but also keeps things fresh and fun day in and day out, which we can all agree is uber important when it comes to training.

If we develop habits of training in different modalities across different tempos and loading % we effectively are optimizing our effective output and simultaneously are recruiting all foundational components of our physiology, from muscle neuron firing patterns to skeletal alignment.

In a world where those that are resilient are those who progress, don't get caught being a Jane Doe. Develop the mindset of diversity fuelled through the practice of variety in your training and nutrition.

Here's a dumbed down version. Do different things ever-day so you leave no stone unturned, develop a better understanding of all aspects of training and nutrition, and so that you can both never be bored and be ready for any possible situation simultaneously.

Consistency= the act of performing a task with moment to moment accuracy.

Eg: Making your bed every morning

Diversity = Variety, choice, change, limitless combinations and outcomes...

Plasticity = the ability to adapt to change based on previous experience

eg: No available squats racks and it's leg day!! Whatchya gonna do??

Adversity= An individual's bump in the road. Some small, some large, some deep, some shallow. but effectively a momentary disturbance in a rather smooth journey.

How are you going to face adversity? Will you adapt, develop, and persist or let it consume you.

Diversity + Consistency = Plasticity > Adversity

- Adversity = + Progress

Progression is built through consistency and tested by passion...

Think on it!
