By no means is this a ploy to get new clients. As a coach, our first priority is transmission of information. I want to educate as many people as I possibly can! This is the intention...
Each time you stumble upon some fad workout routine or diet and begin wondering if you should hop on the Beach-body workout bus, ask yourself these four questions.
1: What is my intended goal?
2: Do I struggle with accountability?
3: What are my limiting factors?
4: Will this practice be sustainable?
It's crucial you ask these questions before entering your credit card info. The excitement and allure of starting something new and reaping the benefits of a healthier lifestyle always rushes over someone when they see these attention grabbing ads. The ole "you know what? I'm really going to do it this time, i'm going to sign up, stick to it, and become the best version of myself"...only to find themselves in the same shoes some 2 weeks down the road once they've become bored with the gimmicks of fad routines. For some it works, but for the general population and those wishing for improved performance, it simply does not.
A coach takes all the worry out of programming, You don't have to guess if the program will work, it's developed by a fitness professional. You don't have to worry about accountability, a coach is there to support you each step of the way. You don't have to worry about limiting factors, a good coach works around them and develops you so that you don't have limiting factors. And you don't have to worry about sustainability, as a good coach will provide the proper information to create lasting sustainable change.
So for the reasons...well i've more or less covered them, but here's some more depth.
Reason #1: Reaching an intended goal
Unlike a 'sign up and complete' style programming, a coach delivers individualized programming based on sound scientific principles that best adhere to the essential component of physiological change (in simple english: They have the proper tools to create a program that best suits your body). Online / fad programs don't take you into account, they are really leaving you by the wayside while they try to sell an image rather than a result. Coaches listen, learn, and adapt to you as a person. Not one person do I see and program some generic BS. It's all thought out and presented to best suit the intended outcome of my client. In a business of personal development, where the development comes directly from external aid, the intent and wellbeing of client comes first. In a world of "sign-up and complete" style programs, the last thing you should be is a number. The first thing you should be is heard, understood, and cared for.
Reason #2: Accountability
This may very well be the number 1 driving force for getting a coach. I would go out on a limb and say that 90% of people who workout, or at least have the intention to workout, fail due to accountability. As a result they bounce back and forth between weights, programs, and diets. The beauty of a coach is they're a walking talking accountability machine. Their primary focus is making sure you do your end of the work. Daily/weekly check ins, calls and convos, logs and charts to focus in on weekly changes. They provide a resource that no online program will deliver. That's consistent access to a healthcare professional with the expertise and human skills (hopefully) to keep you on track and motivated to keep working day in and day out. If your goal is to lose weight, perform better at a competition, or lift 10 more pounds, there is no greater benefit than a coach to walk you through step by step and keep you accountable.
Reason #3: Coaches can make your weakness, your strength.
Often people are nervous about getting a coach because they feel either the coach can't help them, or they themselves are too limited. Just know that a coach's primary focus is the wellbeing of their client. If they're unable to produce value to a client regardless of their limitations, then finding a new coach is in store. However, for the majority of fitness professionals i'd like to think their intentions are set on helping people. Granted you don't find a nincompoop coach, a coach can provide you with a detailed assignment of exercises that enables you to make significant progress in areas you lack, or work around limitations thus allowing you to continue making progress. Buying some one-off online program leaves you with a mess of questions. A coach creates a clear path from start to finish and knows how to patch the road along the way.
Reason #4: Sustainability
I would say the biggest fears are "will it last?", "what if I gain it all back?", "will I be ready for my competition?"... Understandable! I can tell you this, without a coach the answer is most likely NO- YOU WILL - NO... With a coach the answer to those fears would most certainly be; As long as you adhere to the program and stay consistent, yes / no you won't gain it back. That goes for each question. A coach provides you with a resource equivalent to that of your professors and teachers, intellectual property. They are the living resource of fitness knowledge. if you invest in them, they will provide the necessary information required for you to reach your goal, maintain that goal, and sustain it for as long as you live and breath.
Reason #5: Cost effective investment
People usually say "I can't afford a coach" but will also buy a 300$ pair of shoes, spend 150$ on a phone bill, or eat out 20 times a month. For the most part coaches are but 100-300$ a month. In regards to investment, there is no better one than an investment in your health. Our time is limited on earth, and the only way to lengthen that time is through a healthy lifestyle. Re-think your commitment to your health, the investment it may take, and areas you can minimize monetary output to re-direct it into a health and wellness input. If you are unwilling to put 100$/month into your wellbeing, but are fine with 100$ / month on take out food, then ask yourself the four questions above and decide which path you wish to take. I guarantee option B (take-out) will leave you feeling regretful in due time.
If there is one thing you take away, remember this. No coach does their job for the sole purpose of making money, for their responsibility is the outcome of their product, their product being you. If they fail to develop the right product, then they've failed at their job. We only want the best for you, so investing in us gives us more reasons to help you reach your goals.
